Frequently asked questions.

How does CarCab work?

CarCab is not an on-demand taxi service. It connects independent drivers who already plan an intercity route with passengers or senders going the same direction. Users book, pay, track status, and manage pickup or delivery inside CarCab.

What is CarCab?

CarCab is a technology platform for intercity carpooling and package delivery. We help drivers already traveling between cities connect with passengers who need a ride and senders who need same-day or next-day package delivery in the same direction.

Is CarCab a taxi or on-demand ride service?

No. CarCab is built around planned city-to-city trips. A driver can post a trip with a route, price, meeting point or door-to-door option, seats, and package capacity. A passenger can reserve and pay for a matching posted trip, or publish a trip request so drivers traveling that way can send offers. The passenger chooses the offer that works best and pays through CarCab.

Is CarCab a delivery company or carpooling?

CarCab is carpooling-first. A driver shares an existing route and may carry a passenger, an eligible package, or both while offsetting travel expenses like gas, wear, maintenance, parking, and tolls.

Where is CarCab available?

CarCab currently supports Ohio city-to-city passenger rides and package delivery across supported routes. Eligible packages can also move along the I-71 corridor from Cleveland through Columbus and Cincinnati toward Louisville, Kentucky.

Can passengers request door-to-door rides?

Yes, when the driver offers it. When posting a trip, a driver chooses meeting-point only or door-to-door. If the driver selects meeting-point only, the driver provides the pickup meeting location. If the driver selects door-to-door, the passenger or sender can enter a pickup or delivery address during booking.

How long can a driver wait?

Passengers should arrive on time at the agreed pickup location. Drivers may wait up to 5 minutes after the scheduled pickup time, unless the trip screen or driver terms show a different grace period.

Can a woman passenger request a woman driver?

Yes. CarCab will offer a Women-to-Women Preference for women passengers who prefer a woman driver. When available, we will try to prioritize matching with an eligible woman driver, depending on route, timing, and driver availability. It is a preference, not a guaranteed match.

Do I have to disclose my gender?

No. Gender information is optional. You may choose not to provide it. We recommend providing accurate profile information because it helps with identity, trust, fraud prevention, and matching women passengers who request a woman driver preference.

How far in advance can a driver post a trip?

Drivers can post supported trips from 2 hours before departure up to 3 months in advance from the driver app.

Can drivers manage rides from the website?

No. Driver web access is intentionally limited to profile, account, rating, and read-only history. Posting trips, accepting, starting, canceling, proof, and completion stay inside the driver app.

Can a passenger send a package without riding?

Yes. A passenger or sender can enter a pickup address, dropoff address, recipient details, package description, declared value, and delivery requirements. Pickup or dropoff can be a home, business, garage, warehouse, office, or other eligible location.

Can a driver carry passengers and packages on the same trip?

Yes, when the driver has selected both options and the vehicle has safe, lawful capacity. The driver reviews each request before accepting.

Can I track my package?

CarCab is designed for live package visibility once a valid package trip is active. Senders should be able to see delivery progress, status updates, proof of delivery, and support options from the trip details.

Can I share my live ride location?

CarCab is designed so passengers and drivers can share an active trip with trusted contacts, call 911 from the trip screen, and contact support if something goes wrong.

How much can a package weigh?

The launch package limit is 25 lb, approximately 10 kg, unless the booking screen shows a lower limit for a particular trip.

What items are prohibited?

Illegal goods, weapons, explosives, hazardous materials, controlled substances, cash, irreplaceable documents, live animals, including dogs and cats, biological materials, and other restricted items may not be sent as packages.

What does CarCab cover for package delivery?

Eligible package deliveries may be covered by up to $200 in package protection after support review. Senders can request additional package protection for eligible parcels up to $10,000 during booking when available.

When do pickup and dropoff codes appear?

Pickup and dropoff codes appear when they are needed for the active booking. Share the pickup code only when the driver collects the passenger or package, and share the dropoff or handoff code only when the ride or delivery is completed.

How is delivery confirmed?

CarCab may require a delivery photo, recipient code, pickup code, handoff code, signature, time record, or other proof depending on the booking.

Do drivers need their own insurance?

Yes. Drivers must keep valid auto insurance, a valid license, valid registration, and a vehicle in good condition. Drivers are responsible for confirming that their policy permits their actual CarCab activity.

How are prices determined?

Drivers choose prices within any CarCab range or limit displayed in the product. Riders and senders see the total before payment. Under the current launch model, CarCab's platform fee is 10% and the driver receives 90%, before driver taxes and expenses.

What happens if I cancel?

Refund eligibility depends on timing, driver acceptance, trip status, and the reason for cancellation. Review the CarCab Cancellation Policy for the detailed rules.

Can I pay or arrange the trip outside CarCab?

No. Off-platform payment removes important booking records and may violate CarCab rules. Use CarCab for booking, payment, and important communication. See the payment rules in our Terms of Use.

Do web changes appear in the apps?

Yes. Profile changes use the same account data and update in real time across web, passenger app, driver app, and admin tools.

What should I do in an emergency?

Call 911 or the appropriate emergency service first. CarCab support is not an emergency service. Report the incident to CarCab after reaching safety.

How do I delete my account or make a privacy request?

You can delete your account directly in the app by going to Profile → Settings, then scrolling down and selecting Delete your account. You may also contact privacy@thecarcab.com to request account deletion. Some records may be retained when required for safety, payment processing, taxes, disputes, fraud prevention, or legal compliance. See the account deletion page.

How do I contact support?

Use the Contact page. Your message is sent directly into CarCab support instead of opening your email app.
